Dalgona Coffee (Whipped Coffee)
This Korean coffee drink took the world by storm during lockdown! Instant coffee, sugar, and hot water are whipped into impossibly fluffy clouds then served over milk. It's beautiful, delicious, and surprisingly easy to make. One sip and you'll understand why everyone was obsessed!
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons instant coffee
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 2 tablespoons hot water
- 1 cup milk (any kind)
- Ice cubes
- Optional: cocoa powder or cinnamon for dusting
Instructions
- 1 In a medium bowl, combine instant coffee, sugar, and hot water.
- 2 Using a hand mixer or whisk, whip the mixture for 3-5 minutes until it becomes thick, fluffy, and light brown.
- 3 The mixture should form stiff peaks like whipped cream.
- 4 Fill a glass with ice cubes.
- 5 Pour milk over the ice.
- 6 Spoon the whipped coffee on top of the milk.
- 7 Dust with cocoa powder or cinnamon if desired.
- 8 Stir before drinking to combine the coffee and milk.
- 9 Enjoy immediately!
Chef's Tips
-
Use instant coffee, not ground coffee - it won't work otherwise.
-
A hand mixer makes this much easier than whisking by hand.
-
The mixture will seem like it won't work at first, but keep whipping!
-
Equal parts of all three ingredients is the key ratio.
-
For a less sweet version, reduce sugar to 1 tablespoon.
-
Try making chocolate dalgona by adding 1 tablespoon cocoa powder.
-
This also works with matcha powder for a non-coffee version.
