Crispy Rice Paper Dumplings
These genius dumplings use rice paper instead of traditional dumpling wrappers, creating the crispiest, most shatter-worthy texture! Fill them with vegetables, tofu, or your favorite protein, then fry or air fry until golden. They're lighter than traditional dumplings but just as addictive!
Ingredients
- 12 round rice paper wrappers
- 2 cups cabbage, finely shredded
- 1 cup carrots, julienned
- 1/2 cup green onions, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon ginger, minced
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 teaspoon rice vinegar
- Oil for frying or cooking spray for air fryer
- For dipping: soy sauce, rice vinegar, chili oil
Instructions
- 1 In a bowl, combine cabbage, carrots, green onions, garlic, ginger, soy sauce, sesame oil, and rice vinegar. Mix well.
- 2 Dip one rice paper wrapper in warm water for just 2-3 seconds until slightly softened (don't over-soak!).
- 3 Lay wrapper on a clean surface.
- 4 Place about 2 tablespoons of filling in the center of the lower third.
- 5 Fold bottom edge over filling, then fold in sides.
- 6 Roll tightly to seal (the rice paper will stick to itself).
- 7 Repeat with remaining wrappers and filling.
- 8 To pan-fry: Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat. Fry dumplings for 2-3 minutes per side until golden and crispy.
- 9 To air fry: Spray dumplings with cooking spray and air fry at 375°F for 8-10 minutes, flipping halfway.
- 10 Serve immediately with dipping sauce.
Chef's Tips
-
Don't over-soak the rice paper or it will tear - just a quick dip!
-
Work quickly as rice paper can dry out and become brittle.
-
Seal edges well to prevent filling from escaping.
-
These get extra crispy, so watch them carefully while cooking.
-
Add protein like cooked shrimp, chicken, or tofu to the filling.
-
Make ahead and freeze uncooked, then cook from frozen.
-
For extra flavor, add mushrooms or water chestnuts to the filling.
